Managing your notifications

MyTags keeps you informed whenever your assets are interacted with. Being prompt with these notifications can help you recover lost items quickly.

Types of Notifications

There are two main types of alerts you will receive:

  1. Asset Scanned: Triggered when someone scans your QR tag.

    • Shows the timestamp and approximate location (based on IP address).

    • If the scanner shares their precise location, you'll see it on a map.

  2. Asset Reported: Triggered when someone scans your tag AND fills out the contact form.

    • Includes a message from the finder.

    • May include photos of the item.

    • Shows their contact number and reason for contacting (e.g., "Found your item").

Viewing Notifications

  1. Click the bell icon in the sidebar or navigate to the Notifications page.

  2. Use the Unreads switch to filter for new messages.

  3. Click on any notification in the list to view its full details in the right panel.

Taking Action

When you view a notification, you have two primary actions:

Acknowledge (Green Check)

Click Acknowledge when you have seen the alert and are taking action.

  • For Asset Reported alerts, you can add a message. The reporter will be notified that you've received their report and your message is shared with them.

  • This marks the notification as read and "handled".

Ignore (Red X)

Click Ignore if the alert is not relevant (e.g., you scanned it yourself for testing).

  • This removes it from your active attention list.

  • For contact alerts, the reporter will be notified that the alert was dismissed (use with caution).

Viewing Location & Photos

If the finder provided extra information:

  • Location: Look for the "View on Map" section to see exactly where the scan happened.

  • Photos: For reported items, look for the "Attached Photos" section to verify the condition of your item.
