You can activate them directly using your device's camera. This process is seamless whether you are using our web dashboard or the MyTags Mobile App.
There are two ways to do this depending on whether you want to link them to an asset immediately or just add them to your inventory.
Method 1: Add to Inventory (From Tags Page)
Use this method if you want to add the tags to your account now but decide which item to attach them to later.
-
Navigate to the Tags page in the sidebar or mobile menu.
-
Click the Activate Physical Tag button.
-
Grant Camera Permission: Your browser or app will ask for permission to access your camera. Click Allow.
-
Scan: Hold your QR code in front of the camera.
-
Success: The tag will be added to your account as an "Unassigned" tag. You can associate it with an asset later.
Method 2: Link Directly (From Asset Details)
Use this method if you already know which item you are tagging.
-
Navigate to the Assets page.
-
Click on the asset you want to tag (e.g., your "Travel Backpack").
-
In the "Attached Tags" section, click the Scan Tag button (QR icon).
-
Grant Camera Permission: Click Allow if asked.
-
Scan: Hold your QR code in front of the camera.
-
Success: The tag is now activated, added to your account, AND instantly linked to that asset.
Camera Privacy Note
We take your privacy seriously. Your camera is accessed only while you are actively activating a tag on this screen. MyTags does not record video, take photos, or access your camera at any other time or in the background.
Troubleshooting
-
Camera not working? Ensure you have given your browser or the MyTags app permission to access the camera in your system settings.
-
Lighting: Ensure you are in a well-lit area so the camera can focus on the code.
-
Already Active: If a tag has already been activated by another user, you will see an error message.
